If players want to live another day in the zombie-infested apocalypse, they will want to fill their backpacks with the best food in DayZ.
DayZ is another zombie survival game with an open world that will test players in many different ways. DayZ takes place in the harsh land of post-Soviet Chernarus, which is set in a world after the end of the world. Most of the people in this country have been affected by an unknown virus that makes them eat each other.
But the infected aren’t the only problem. Players have to figure out how to stay alive in a world with few supplies and a mindset that everyone is out for themselves. Food is needed to stay alive and give people the energy they need to do things, just like in real life. There are many kinds of food, and each one gives a certain amount of water and energy.
Strawberry Jam
Most of the time, strawberry jam is used as a condiment to make other foods taste better. But in DayZ, it’s one of the best things you can find to eat. Strawberry Jam is one of the canned foods that can be found in houses if players look around.
It takes up 4 places in a player’s inventory, but it gives 150kcal of energy and 50mL of water. As a canned food, Strawberry Jam will never go bad if a player doesn’t open it. This makes it a great food item to keep and save for when things are bad.
Canned Baked Beans
Beans are the magical food, and the more a player eats of them, the longer they have before they die of hunger. Beans are another canned food item, and they are very common, so players shouldn’t have to make the beans themselves because they should find at least a few cans of beans as they play.
It takes up 4 inventory spots and gives 200kcal of energy and 50mL of water when eaten. It won’t go bad if you don’t open it, and you don’t have to cook it. The only bad thing is that a person will need a can opener or a knife to get inside the can.
Honey
Some people believe that honey is the drink of the gods, and players will agree if they can get their hands on this food item. Honey is a Rare item, so it might be hard to find, especially if you join a server with a lot of other players. Honey can be found in towns, schools, farms, and other places where people live.
It takes up 4 places in a player’s inventory and gives 250kcal when eaten, but it doesn’t give water. Honey will never go bad, just like any other canned food that hasn’t been opened. It’s also a food that you can eat without cooking.
Mackerel Fillet
One way to get food in the game is to go fishing. A player can fish in two different ways: with a fishing stick or with a fish trap. No matter which choice they choose, players must first make a few things before they can fish. When making fish traps, players won’t have to make a fishing hook or use bait like they do when using a fishing rod. Keep the best weapon upgrades on hand in case an enemy player comes looking for this treasure.
Mackerel is one of the best fish to catch for food. In the Green Sea, which is near Chernarus, you can find mackerels. Before they can eat a mackerel, players need a knife to gut it and cut it into pieces. Players shouldn’t eat the pieces of mackerel raw because it will make them sick and won’t give them the most energy. A player will get 240kcal of energy and 40mL of water from a baked Mackerel Fillet.
Canned Bacon
Canned Bacon is probably the best of all the canned foods a player can get. Bacon is tasty, and if a player hasn’t found anything else to eat, bacon can save their life. Canned bacon is a hard-to-get food because you can only find it in military camps and bases.
But brave or desperate players who risk their lives for canned bacon will get 300kcal and 50mL of water in return. It won’t go bad if it’s never opened, and to open it, players need either a knife or a can opener.
Cereals
Cereals are one type of food that fall into the category of “Geometry Dash Subzero.” Most of these things, like chips, cookies, crackers, and more, are snacks. Cereal is one of the best dry things to find in this zombie-filled wasteland. They are rare, but you can find them everywhere. The box does take up 9 inventory slots, but it gives 400 kcal of energy, so it might be worth giving up a little room.
It doesn’t need to be cooked, and just like canned food, it won’t go bad if you don’t leave the lid off. If a person is very lucky, they might find a compass in their cereal box as a “prize.” Even though that’s not likely to happen.
Powdered Milk
Powdered milk might not sound like the best thing to eat, but in a post-apocalyptic world like DayZ, you can’t pick and choose what you eat. A player can also find powdered milk, which is one of the best dry things they can find.
It has 400kcal, which is the same amount of energy as a box of cereal, but it only takes up 2 slots, which is a lot less room. It doesn’t give you any water and makes you feel a little dry, but you can find it everywhere.
Venison Steak
You can also get food in DayZ by going on a hunt. There are many kinds of animals that players can hunt to get food and other supplies. Deer are one of the best creatures for a player to hunt. A person can hunt different kinds of deer, including stags, does, roebucks, and hinds. When a person hunts and kills a deer, they get more than just meat. They also get bones, fat, guts, and a deer skin, all of which can be used in different ways.
Before taking the meat, players have to skin the deer and turn it into Venison burgers. The best way to get the most energy out of venison steak is to bake it. 350kcal of energy and 50mL of water are in a baked venison steak.
